Some remarks on filtrations and plethysms (Q1909938)

[For part II see Commun. Algebra 23, No. 2, 421-436 (1995; Zbl 0834.20046).] Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with identity and let \(F\) be a free \(R\)-module of finite rank. The exterior, symmetric and divided power algebras of \(F\) are denoted by \(\Lambda F\), \(SF\) and \(DF\) respectively. The author shows that each of the plethysms \(D_2(D_kF)\), \(\Lambda^2(D_kF)\), \(S_2(S_kF)\), \(\Lambda^2(S_kF)\), \(S_2(\Lambda^kF)\) and \(\Lambda^2(\Lambda^kF)\), where \(k\geq 1\), admits a natural filtration (over any ring in which 2 is invertible). This is done by providing an explicit filtration in four cases with the other two cases following from contravariant duality.
