For each nontwisted affine Kac-Moody algebra, the \(\mathbb{C}\)-span of the normalized characters of fixed level is invariant under the natural action of the modular group \(SL_2 (\mathbb{Z})\) -- this action defines unitary matrices called the Kac-Peterson matrices. This paper finds all symmetries of these matrices, for the affinization of \(A_{r_1} \oplus \dots \oplus A_{r_s}\). It is found that these symmetries are built up in a standard way from the symmetries of the affine Coxeter-Dynkin diagram. This constitutes a significant step toward the classification of conformal field theories based on those algebras. The arguments should generalize to the other affine algebras.
