The first part of the book contains a phenomenological description of various damage, fatigue, creep, corrosion, and wear processes that are observed in structural members. Thereafter, a short introduction to the basic concepts of continuum mechanics is given, and analytical solutions of classical boundary value problems where different materials are involved, are listed in detail. This gives the basis for more advanced concepts of continuum damage theory, fracture mechanics and lifetime prediction, which are introduced from the fundamentals up to recent advances. The topic of the book is a rather new and special field of research. Only a few books, if any, are available up to now. Therefore, this book will be a great help for all people working on the same matter. It contains a long list of further references, which makes it recommendable to all, beginners and advanced researchers.
