Generalised measures of non-precompactness relative to von Neumann algebras (Q1910854)

Let \(A\) be a von Neumann algebra on a Hilbert space \(H\). The author characterizes norm closed ideals \(I\) in terms of generalized measures of non-precompactness on \(H\). In case \(A\) is the algebra of all bounded operators on \(H\), and \(I\) is the ideal of compact operators, the corresponding measure reduces to the classical ball measure of non-compactness. When \(A\) is semifinite with a faithful semifinite normal trace \(\tau\), the author provides generalized measures of non-precompactness on \(H\) which are parametrized by the positive half line and can be used to characterize the ideal of \(\tau\)-compact operators.
