The authors consider a singular neutral functional differential equation of the form \[ {d\over dt}\left(\int_{-r}^{0}g(\theta)x(t+\theta) d\theta\right)= f(t),\quad t\geq0, \] \[ x(\theta)=\phi(\theta),\quad -r\leq\theta\leq0, \] where \(0<r<\infty\), and \(g\) is a positive, monotone, integrable function on \([-r,0]\) such that \(g(\theta)\to\infty\) as \(\theta\to0^-\). Well-posedness of this problem in the spaces \(C(-r,0)\) and \(L^2_g(-r,0)\) (\(L^2\)-space with weighting function \(g\)) is discussed. Variation of parameters formula is established. Some generalizations and examples are given.
