Let \(M\) be an oriented smooth 4-manifold and \(\overline{M}\) the manifold \(M\) with orientation reversed. An almost complex structure on \(\overline{M}\) is said to be an opposite almost complex structure. For a given almost complex manifold, the existence of the opposite one is not guaranteed in general. It is known that the condition for an oriented 4-manifold \(M\) to admit a pair of an almost complex structure and an opposite almost complex structure is equivalent to the existence of a field of oriented tangent 2-planes on the 4-manifold \(M\). It is also observed that an oriented 4-manifold \(M\) equipped with a pair of an almost complex structure \(J\) and an opposite almost complex \(J'\) admits a Riemannian metric \(g\) such that \(J\) and \(J'\) are both \(g\)-orthogonal. Then the quadruple \((M,g,J,J')\) is called a double almost Hermitian manifold. It is well-known that a K3 surface admits a Kähler-Einstein metric and further, the underlying real 4-manifold of the K3 surface admits an opposite almost complex structure, and also that the similar statement is valid for the complex surfaces \(\mathbb{C} P^2\# n\overline{\mathbb{C} P^2}\) \((n=3,5,7)\). In the present paper, the authors prove that a Kähler-Einstein metric \(g\) on a K3 surface cannot be almost Kähler with respect to a \(g\)-orthogonal opposite almost complex structure and also that a similar assertion holds for the complex surfaces \(\mathbb{C} P^2\# n\overline{\mathbb{C} P^2}\) \((n=3,5,7)\). Further, the authors classify compact double Kähler-Einstein surfaces with vanishing, positive, and negative first Chern classes, respectively.
