Symplectic and Poisson structures of certain moduli spaces. I (Q1911602)

The paper is concerned with the construction of symplectic structures on moduli spaces of the form \(\Hom (\pi, G)/G\) where \(\pi\) is the fundamental group of a closed surface and \(G\) is a Lie group. Those symplectic structures come about by the process of symplectic reduction applied to a certain Hamiltonian \(G\)-action on some manifold that contains \(\Hom (\pi, G)\). The case of twisted moduli spaces is also considered.
