Denote by \(M= M_\infty (R)\) the set of infinite square matrices over a ring \(R\) equipped with the standard operation addition and multiplication. (If \(A,B\in M\) the product \(AB\) is defined when all sums \((AB)_{ij}= \sum_k A_{ik} B_{kj}\) for the \((i,j)\)-th entries of \(AB\) are finite.) Note that this multiplication is not necessarily associative. The authors have shown that \(M\) enjoys some universal properties similar to those of the usual finite matrix rings. Thus every (nonassociative) unitary algebra of a countable dimension over a field \(F\) is embeddable in \(M_\infty (F)\); an analogous statement holds for the countable groupoids. Let \(\{f_j\}\) be a collection of nonassociative polynomials. The authors describe the collections \(\{f_j \}\) having at least one solution on \(M_\infty (F)\).
