This is a short and elegant survey on the topology on the symmetric group on a countable set. The paper includes some applications of Haar measure, a discussion of cofinitary permutation groups (that is, groups where every non-identity element has just finitely many fixed points), and an infinitary version of ideas of Maillet, with connections with geometric groups.
