This article is a survey devoted to the theory of nonmetrizable manifolds of finite dimension. The term ``finite dimension'' is used in two senses, the first of course being the consideration as a manifold modeled on a finite-dimensional Euclidean space. The second involves the dimension-theoretic properties of such objects. The author states that the subject of nonmetrizable manifolds begins with the work of \textit{M. E. Rudin} and \textit{P. Zenor} [Houston J. Math. 2, 129-134 (1976; Zbl 0315.54028)]. Therein can be found an example of a perfectly normal, nonmetrizable 2-manifold in CH. Other results followed that one, and one may find a survey, [Handbook of set-theoretic topology, 633-684 (1984; Zbl 0583.54002)], by \textit{Peter Nyikos}. It should be noted, however, that the current paper is more than a survey because ``the author has tried to give almost complete proofs of the results in the dimension theory of manifolds.'' There are 5 sections in the paper; the last one is devoted to dimension theory, and it is there that developments which have been obtained in the two years preceding this work will be found. The first section contains a brief introduction. Other sections provide basic notions from set theory (e.g., Martin's axiom), definitions of dimension and some fundamentals of dimension theory, certain facts from general topology, definitions concerning manifolds, differentiable manifolds and bundles, and of course a review of the theory concerning what is known about nonmetrizable manifolds.
