A ``filter space'' (or filter-merotopic space) is a set \(X\) equipped with a ``screen'' \({\mathcal C}\) of filters which includes all fixed ultrafilters and contains along with any filter all finer filters. It is first observed that before questions about ``completeness'' or ``completion'' can be considered, a decision about the convergence associated with the filter space must be made. The author suggests three possible definitions for this associated convergence and compares them briefly, before choosing the best-known of these, denoted by \(\lambda\), for further study. The remainder of the paper is devoted to studying certain \(\lambda\)-completions and determining whether various filter space properties extend from a filter space to its \(\lambda\)-completion.
