This paper deals with the existence and \(\hbar\)-independent bounds on solutions of Schrödinger equations with Weyl symbol \(k(t,x,\hbar\xi)\) such that \[ |D^\alpha_\xi D^\beta_x k(t,x,\xi)|\leq C_{\alpha,\beta}(1+|x|+|\xi|) \] for \(|\alpha|+|\beta|\geq 1\). This allows periodic potentials, unlike the earlier condition \(|D^\alpha_\xi D^\beta_x k|\leq C_{\alpha,\beta}\) for \(|\alpha|+|\beta|\geq 2\). The method of attack parallels the argument for symmetric hyperbolic systems in which the symbol is regularized to make it bounded, and uniform estimates are proved via commutator estimates. The uniformity in \(\hbar\) comes from working in symbol classes with weight \((\langle x\rangle^a+\langle\hbar\xi\rangle^b)^s\). A similar result, under the alternative assumption that \(|D^\alpha_\xi D^\beta_x k|\leq C_{\alpha,\beta}\langle x\rangle\) for \(|\alpha|\neq 0\), and \(|D^\beta_xk|\leq C_\beta(\langle x\rangle^M+\langle\xi\rangle)\) for all \(\beta\) is outlined, and an extension to Dirac equations with symbol conditions similar to the latter is mentioned.
