The author considers the reaction-diffusion equation: \[ {\partial u\over \partial t}= \Delta u- \alpha u- f(u)- G\quad \text{in}\quad Q^\varepsilon\times (0, \infty),\quad {\partial u\over \partial n}= 0\quad \text{on} \quad \partial Q^\varepsilon\times (0, \infty), \] where the bounded domain \(Q^\varepsilon\subset \mathbb{R}^2\) (depending on small parameter \(\varepsilon> 0\)) degenerates to a line segment as \(\varepsilon\to 0\). It satisfies the condition \(\overline{Q^\varepsilon}= \overline{Q^\varepsilon_1}\cup \overline{Q^\varepsilon_2} \cup \overline{Q^\varepsilon_3}\), where each \(Q^\varepsilon_i\) \((i= 1,2,3)\) approaches a segment \(\Omega_i\), respectively (for \(\varepsilon\downarrow 0\)), however the order of degeneration is not uniform. \(Q^\varepsilon_1\), \(Q^\varepsilon_3\) have order \(O(\varepsilon)\), while \(Q^\varepsilon_2\) has a faster order \(O(\varepsilon^p)\) \((1< p< 3)\). The author studies the dynamic of the reaction-diffusion equation and particularly, the limiting behavior of the global attractor \({\mathcal A}_\varepsilon\). The author finds a certain limit problem and shows ``\(\limsup_{\varepsilon\to 0} {\mathcal A}_\varepsilon\subset {\mathcal A}\)'' in some cases, where \(\mathcal A\) is the global attractor of the limit problem.
