The author introduces the notion of ``parametrized relativistic gauge systems'', thereby translating into a coordinate-free symplectic geometry setup some constructions of \textit{P. Hájicék} and \textit{K. Kuchař} [Phys. Rev. D(3) 41, No. 4, 1091-1104 (1990)]. Starting from the classical constraint algebra for such a system, he constructs the natural quantum operators and deduces the corresponding commutator algebra. In particular, the theory of conformal foliations is used to provide a natural factor ordering for the quantum operators.
