A mathematical model for description of the continuous casting process is presented. It incorporates energy conservation for liquid and solid phases and corresponding boundary conditions. The problem is reduced to the nonlinear Stefan problem. It is shown that the normalized pseudo steady state temperature can serve as an upper bound to the normalized actual temperature. Some numerical results are presented.
