The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually. The aim of the book under review is ``to introduce the English speaking public to the wide spectrum of texts predominantly by physicists portraying the actual and perceived role of physics in the Nazi state''. It consists of an Introduction and of an anthology of texts. In the introduction the general context of the period is covered. It is intended as a summary of the current historiography of science in the Third Reich, concentrating on physics. The anthology which is the main part of the book consists of texts by authors representing various political opinions and specialities within the physics community. The texts are divided into 5 sections: Controversies prior to 1933, after the Nazi seizure of power, the ideological schism: 1936-1939, physics at war: 1939-1945, the legacy of national socialism. Altogether 121 texts are included. Appendices to the book contain: information on professional institutions and associations, on state and military institutions, on national socialist organizations, on some major industrial firms, on journals and periodicals, as well as biographical profiles. Bibliography to the book contains 969 items! Name index is added.
