In this interesting paper the author uses realization theory of linear systems to solve a Sturm-Liouville inverse problem. The author gives a system theoretic interpretation to various operators appearing in the S-L theory by identifying them as observability and controllability operators of certain distributed linear systems. This leads to a new derivation of the Gelfand-Levitan-Marchenko-Krein equation.
