Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(\text{Form}(G)\) be the formation generated by \(G\). If \(G\) is a soluble group then the lattice of all subformations of \(\text{Form}(G)\) is finite by the Bryant-Bryce-Hartley theorem [see \textit{R. M. Bryant, R. A. Bryce, B. Hartley}, Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 2, 347-357 (1970; Zbl 0191.02201)]. \textit{A. N. Skiba} [Izv. Akad. Nauk BSSR, Ser. Fiz.-Mat. Nauk 1981, No. 3, 33-38 (1981; Zbl 0489.20015)] showed that \(\text{Form}(G)\) contains only finitely many subformations when the group \(G\) has no Frattini chief factors below \(G^\gamma\), the soluble residual. The main result of this paper is the following Theorem. Let \(G\) be a finite group. Suppose \(G\) is an extension of a soluble group by a non-abelian simple group. Then \(\text{Form}(G)\) contains only finitely many subformations.
