The first sentence of the article describes its contents quite accurately: ``Given a coherent family of virtual representations of a complex semisimple Lie algebra we associate a coherent family of virtual representations of the corresponding quantum group at roots of unity.'' As an application, it is sketched at the end of the article how this method can be used to determine composition factor multiplicities for Verma modules over quantum groups at roots unity.
