For real-valued functions defined on Banach spaces with separable duals, two second-order subdifferentials are introduced. One is defined in terms of a generalized second-order directional derivative and the other is defined as the convex hull of the limiting points of second-order Gâteaux derivatives. Calculus is established. Applications of the second-order subdifferentials are given to present necessary and sufficient optimality conditions.
