The category of topological groups and continuous homomorphisms has arbitrary products. However, the product of a family of sequential groups need not be sequential. Even if a topological group \(G\) is not a sequential space, it may have the property that every sequentially continuous homomorphism from \(G\) to any topological group is continuous. Groups with this property are called \(s\)-groups. A topological group is called \(u\)-sequential if its right uniformity is uniformly sequential. The paper under review shows that a family of \(s\)-groups (or of \(u\)-sequential groups) is an \(s\)-group (or an \(u\)-sequential one, respectively) if the number of factors is less than a certain cardinal. It is also shown that this cardinal coincides with the first cardinal \({\mathfrak g}\) such that \(\mathbb{Z}^{\mathfrak g}\) is not an \(s\)-group. (One may also replace \(\mathbb{Z}\) by the group with two elements.) A final section of the paper considers the special case of homomorphisms to compact groups.
