In the paper, given a regular bounded open subset \(\Omega\) of \(\mathbb{R}^n\), \(g:\partial\Omega\to ]0,+\infty[\) smooth and considered for every \(\varepsilon>0\) the values \(m_\varepsilon=\min\{\varepsilon^2\int_\Omega |Du|^2dx+\int_\Omega u^2dx: u\in W^{1,2}(\Omega)\), \(u=g\) on \(\partial\Omega\}\), it is proved that \[ m_\varepsilon=\varepsilon \int_{\partial\Omega}g^2(y)d{\mathcal H}^{n-1}(y)-{\varepsilon^2\over 2} \int_{\partial\Omega} g^2(y)K_1(y)d{\mathcal H}^{n-1}(y)+o(\varepsilon^2), \] where \(K_1\) denotes the mean curvature of \(\partial\Omega\) and \({\mathcal H}^{n-1}\) the \((n-1)\)-dimensional Hausdorff measure. Such result is related to researches connected with the so-called Cahn-Hilliard or Modica-Mortola functionals and is also used to define a mean curvature measure on \(\partial\Omega\) when \(\partial\Omega\) is just Lipschitz continuous.
