The paper deals with three-dimensional problems in helicopter aerodynamics and acoustics, when they are solved with anisotropic refinement of tetrahedral meshes. One of the problems is that repeated subdivision can lead to poor element quality in such a manner that a technique is needed to ensure that the mesh does not deteriorate after several refinements. A strategy is proposed to cope with some of the difficulties so involved.
