On meaningfulness of means (Q1917906)

The authors first list 13 properties of mean values and explore their relationships. Then they offer, among others, characterizations of ordered weighted means [that is, of weighted arithmetic means defined on ordered sets of quantities with each weight depending not on the value but on the place of the quantity in the order] and, in particular, of the minimum, maximum and of the (symmetric) arithmetic mean. The paper of \textit{S.-R. Kim}, which in Ref. [11] and on page 11 is quoted as RUTCOR Technical (research) Report, has since appeared in [Math. Soc. Sci. 20, No. 1, 19-36 (1990; Zbl 0731.92032)].
