In a work by \textit{B. Davies}, \textit{O. Foda}, \textit{M. Jimbo}, \textit{T. Miwa} and \textit{A. Nakayashiki} [Commun. Math. Phys. 151, 89-153 (1993; Zbl 0769.17020)], the anti-ferroelectric XXZ hamiltonian has been diagonalized directly in the thermodynamic limit based on the quantum affine symmetry. In this paper, the author adds one more class of vertex models which can be solved by a similar method. These models are the inhomogeneous vertex models of six-vertex type with the inhomogeneities in the spins. A degeneration of the ground states appears in these models. In order to overcome the difficulty, the author introduces new kinds of \(q\)-vertex operators. The commutation relations among these operators are determined. By establishing new isomorphisms of crystals, the author clarifies the quasi-particle structure of the vertex models.
