    The authors consider a difference equation of the form \[ \Delta (r_n \Delta y_n) + a_n f(y_{n-\tau (n)})=0, \tag{*} \] where \(a:\mathbb{N} \to [0, \infty)\), \(r:\mathbb{N} \to (0, \infty)\), \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty (1/r_n)=\infty\), \(\tau:\mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{Z}\), \(\lim_{n \to \infty} (n-\tau (n))=\infty\) \(f:\mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}=(- \infty, \infty)\), \(f\) is continuous and \(xf(x) > 0\) for \(x \neq 0\). Sufficient conditions for oscillation of all solutions of (*), and for oscillation of all bounded solutions are presented. Furthermore, conditions for oscillation of the sequences of differences \(\{\Delta y_n\}^\infty_{n=\nu}\) (here \(\nu=\min_{k \geq 0} (k-\tau (k))\) is the smallest integer for which the solutions are defined) are given. The results obtained extend those proved by \textit{Z. Wang} and \textit{J. Yu} [Funkc. Ekvacioj, Ser. Int. 34, No. 2, 313-319 (1991; Zbl 0742.39003)].
