[For part I see the authors in Adv. Math. 109, No. 1, 1-33 (1994; Zbl 0838.33012).] The Askey-Wilson finite difference operator, \({\mathcal D}_q\), acts on the continuous \(q\)-Jacobi polynomials by taking \(P^{(\alpha,\beta)}_n(x|q)\) to a multiple of \(P^{(\alpha+1,\beta+1)}_{n-1}(x|q)\), and therefore maps a dense subset of \(L_2[w_{\alpha,\beta}(x|q)]\) into \(L_2[w_{\alpha+1,\beta+1}(x|q)]\), where \(w_{\alpha,\beta}(x|q)\) is the weight function for the continuous \(q\)-Jacobi functions. The authors find an integral representation of a right inverse of \({\mathcal D}_q\), they characterize the eigenvalues of this operator, and they prove a \(q\)-analog of the expansion of \(e^{ixy}\) in Jacobi polynomials of argument \(x\). They also describe a general procedure for finding integral representations for inverses of linear operators.
