The character of the paper is exploratory. Some conjectures concerning ``evolution problems'' are presented. They are related to the ``steepest descent'', to the approximations of Newton's gravitation law, to hyperbolic nonlinear equations, to ``descent movements'' of manifolds. The arguments discussed in the paper are apparently far from each other, but the study of them should allow scientists to better understand the phenomena which appear when one approximates more difficult unstable problems with simpler stable ones. More in general the study of the conjectures proposed in the paper might provide an opportunity to get together and ponder the connections that exist among various mathematical concepts, such as linearity and nonlinearity, stability and instability, or convergence of different approximation methods, and certain ideas well developped in physics, such as deterministic and nondeterministic behavior, order and chaos, etc.
