Let \(H\) be a commutative algebra over an algebraically closed field \(k\), \(V\) a left \(H\)-module by a representation \(D\) of \(H\) to \(\text{End }V\). If \(D\) and \(D'\) are representations of \(H\) on \(V\) which commute (pointwise on \(H\)), then their convolution product \((D*D')(h)=\sum D(h_1)D'(h_2)\) is also a representation. The author proves a Jordan-Chevalley decomposition theorem for \(D\) locally-finite, i.e., \(D(H)v\) is finite-dimensional for each \(v\) in \(V\). Then there exist unique locally-finite representations \(D_s\) and \(D_n\) of \(H\) on \(V\) which commute such that \(D=D_s*D_n\), \(D_s\) is semi-simple (i.e., \(D_s(H)V\) is a semisimple \(H\)-module) and \(D_n\) is locally nilpotent (i.e., for each \(v\) in \(V\), some power of \(D_n(H^+)\) annihilates \(v\), \(H^+\) the augmentation ideal of \(H\)). If \(H\) is \(k[x]\) with \(x\) primitive, this generalizes the Jordan-Chevally (additive) decomposition of a locally-finite endomorphism of \(V\). If \(H=k[x,x^{-1}]\) with \(x\) group-like, this generalizes the Jordan-Chevalley decomposition of a locally finite linear bijection of \(V\). The main theorem of the paper states that if \(A\) is a (left) \(H\)-module algebra via the locally-finite representation \(D\), then \(A\) is an \(H\)-module algebra via \(D_s\). If \(H\) is cocommutative, then \(A\) is also an \(H\)-module algebra via \(D_n\).
