    The author proves the following Helly-type theorem: Let \(T\) be a topological space and assume that there are open subsets \(A_1, \dots, A_k\subset T\) with \(\pi_{k-2} (A_1 \cup \cdots \cup A_k) = 0\) and such that for all \(s\in\{1, \dots, k-1\}\) and \(1\leq i_1< \cdots <i_s \leq k\) we have that \(\pi_{k-s-2}(A_1\cap\cdots\cap A_{i_s})=0\) (where \(\pi_{-1}(X)=0\) iff \(X \neq \emptyset)\) then \(\bigcap^k_{i=1} A_i \neq \emptyset\). This leads to the following Borsuk-type theorem: Let \(T\) be a connected locally path-connected simply connected topological space and \(\eta:T \to T\) an involution. Then there is a \(p\in T\) such that \(\varphi (p) = \varphi (\eta(p))\). \{Taking into account that Plenum Publishing is a profit-oriented publisher one should at least expect decent translations -- the present one is but a rough approximation to an English version of the well-written original\}.
