The study is focused on the problem of interfacing a fuzzy controller (that is realized as a digital system) with analog data coming from the environment. Let \(X\) be a collection of continuous (analog) input variables \(X=\{x_1,x_2,\dots,x_n\}\) and \(T_i\) denote a collection of linguistic labels (fuzzy sets) of \(x_i\), say \(T_i=\{\tau_{i1}, \tau_{i2},\dots,\tau_{im}\}\). The conversion of the analog input is viewed as a mapping \(F\) such that \[ F: x_i(t)\to\tau_{ij}, \] \(j=1,2,\dots,m\), is defined for any time moment \((t)\). Considering that the design of the interface (input) device hinges on a set of threshold elements, the paper elaborates upon implementation details along with a discussion on the detailed functional modules of the device. Both one-dimensional and multidimensional versions are covered.
