Nonlinear crack mechanics (Q1921707)

A new approximate approach to the construction of the plastic zone in the vicinity of the crack tip and a new formulation of the failure condition are considered. In this approach, solution of the problem of integral equilibrium of a body with a crack permits approximate determination of the two-dimensional plastic zone for plane stress and plane strain states. The failure criterion is formulated in terms of the limiting displacement of the boundary between the plastic and elastic zones.
