Piecewise uniform medium and three-dimensional linearized theory of stability are applied to the problem of a row of fibers under compression. Partial differential equations for subcritical states are derived for the binder and the fibers first in the rectangular coordinate system and then for the fiber in the cylindrical coordinate system. An infinite inhomogeneous system of algebraic equations is obtained, and the characteristic equations are derived. Calculation of critical deformations is exemplified by some numerical examples.
