The authors apply the ``OGY strategy of controlling chaos'' developed by \textit{E. Ott}, \textit{C. Grebogi} and \textit{J. A. Yorke} [see e.g. Phys. Rev. Lett. 64, 1196 (1990)] in order to enforce a stable periodic behavior by introducing small periodic parametric perturbations into nonlinear oscillating systems of van der Pol type.
