The operator \(Tf:=(\sum |s_{2^n} f-\sigma_{2^n}f|^2)^{1/2}\) was introduced by \textit{G. Sunouchi} [Tôhoku Math. J., II. Ser. 16, 228-237 (1964; Zbl 0146.08902)], where \(s_mf\) and \(\sigma_mf\) are the partial sum and the Cesàro mean of the Walsh-Fourier series of \(f\in L_1\), respectively. The present author generalizes it for double Walsh-Fourier series as follows: \[ Tf:=\biggl(\sum\sum |s_{2^m,2^n}f- s^1_{2^m}\sigma^2_{2^n}f- \sigma^1_{2^m}s^2_{2^n} f+\sigma_{2^m,2^n}f|^2\biggr)^{1/2}, \] which he calls the two-parameter Sunouchi operator. In the unrestricted case the summations are extended over \(m, n=0,1,\dots\) independently of one another; while in the restricted case the summation is extended over the cone \(|m-n|\leq\alpha\), where \(\alpha\geq 0\) is fixed. The following results are typical: (i) In the unrestricted case, if \(2/3<p<\infty\) and \(0<q\leq\infty\), then \[ |Tf|_{L_{p,q}}\leq C_{p,q}|_{H_{p,q}},\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(L_{p,q}\) and \(H_{p,q}\) stand for the Lorentz and the martingale Hardy-Lorentz spaces, respectively, and the constant \(C_{p,q}\) does not depend on \(f\in H_{p,q}\); (ii) In the restricted case, if \(0<p<\infty\) and \(0<q\leq\infty\), then we have \((*)\) with \(H^\square_{p,q}\) in place of \(H_{p,q}\).
