Examples of characteristic functions (ch.f.) that take a constant nonnegative value \(p\), \(0\leq p\leq 1\), on an interval are easy to find. It is well-known that there is no ch.f. that is equal to \(-1\) on an interval. The author presents simple examples of ch.f.'s that take an arbitrary negative value \(p\), \(-1<p<0\), on an interval.
