This book deals with signal sampling techniques in digital signal processing and control, with particular emphasis on the concept of intersample behavior. The first half of the book is devoted to digital signal processing. The authors present a unified description of the frequency domain characteristics of sampled and continuous signals, as well as sampling and reconstruction of signals, lattice and Kalman filtering and related estimation issues. The second half of the book deals with digital control and covers such topics as sampled data control and periodic systems. Distinguishing features of the book include development of tools for dealing with mixed sampled and continuous signals, a complete discussion of modern discrete control, a unified treatment of Fourier analysis of signals, coverage of filter design in continuous and discrete time and multi-rate signal processing and control. The authors emphasize engineering insights rather than mathematical completeness. The prerequisites for the book are elementary linear algebra and an undergraduate course in control or signals and systems. These features make the book suitable as a current reference course (for practicing engineers) on sampling and its applications in digital signal processing and control, and as a textbook for a graduate course in sampled systems.
