Summary: A model originally suggested by \textit{D. Greenhalgh} [IMA J. Math. Appl. Med. Biol. 7, No. 1, 1-26 (1990; Zbl 0751.92014)] and later modified by that same author [ibid. 9, No. 2, 67-106 (1992; Zbl 0805.92025); Bull. Math. Biol. 54, No. 5, 733-758 (1992; Zbl 0766.92020)] is considered under the assumption that the transmission coefficient is inversely proportional to the total population size. The purpose of this study is to see the effect of this density dependent transmission coefficient on the stability criteria for the equilibrium of the model equations. It is found that Greenhalgh's results are still valid.
