    The authors develop an algorithm which can be used for simulations as well as control of sliding-mode systems. It exploits a trade-off between the tracking error and sampling rate and overcomes chattering. More precisely, the sampling rate is adjusted adaptively so that the tracking error is bounded within a boundary layer of the sliding surface.
