Asymptotic estimation for the condition numbers in BEM (Q1923314)

The author considers the collocation method with piecewise linear trial functions for the simple layer potential operator due to the Laplacian in a two-dimensional domain with smooth boundary. It is shown that the maximum norm of the discretization matrix and its condition number behaves like \(C_0n+O(n)\) and \(C_1n+o(n)\), respectively, for \(n\to\infty\). The constants \(C_0\) and \(C_1\) are explicitly calculated.
