Given a bounded domain \(\Omega\) in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) the Friedrichs operator is given by \[ Tf(z)= \int_\Omega K(z,w) \overline{f}(w)dv(w), \] where \(K(z,w)\) is the Bergman kernel. This is a rank-one operator if \(\Omega\) is the unit ball or a complete Reinhard domain, and it is interesting to determine for which domains \(\Omega\) the operator \(T\) has finite rank, or how the boundary regularity of \(\Omega\) affects the asymptotic behaviour of the sequence \((s_j(T))\) of singular numbers of \(T\). Shapiro proved for \(n=1\) that \(T\) has finite rank if and only if \(\Omega\) is a quadrature domain. Janson, Peetre and Rochberg proved the same result for \(n>1\) and \(\Omega\) a bounded Runge domain with \(C^1\) boundary. Friedrichs and Norman showed that there is a Lipschitz domain in the plane such that \(T\) is not compact. Lin and Rochberg characterized when \(T\) belongs to the Schatten class \(S_p\) \((0<p\leq\infty)\); i.e., \((s_j(T))\in\ell_p\), for a finitely connected planar domain. However, their method is not applicable for a general domain in \(\mathbb{C}^n\). In this paper the authors prove that for \(\Omega\) smoothly bounded in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) and satisfying some condition, \(T\in S_p\) for all \(p>0\); for \(\Omega\) bounded in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) with \(C^{1+a}\) boundary, \(T\in S_p\) for all \(p>1\) if \(a=1\), and \(T\in S_p\) for all \(p>1/a\) if \(0<a<1\); and for \(\Omega\) bounded in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) with real analytic boundary, \(s_j(T)= O(c^{-j^{1/n}})\) as \(j\to\infty\) for some \(0<c<1\).
