The present paper is devoted to a study of the distribution properties modulo 1 of \(G\)-additive functions. The authors consider numeration systems with respect to a linear recurring sequence \(G= (G_k)\) and study arithmetic functions satisfying \[ f \left( \sum^K_{k=0} \varepsilon_k G_k \right) = \sum^K_{k=0} f(\varepsilon_k G_k). \] This extends \textit{A. O. Gelfond}'s \(q\)-additive functions [Acta Arith. 13, 259-265 (1968; Zbl 0155.09003)]. Under certain natural technical conditions, the existence of the distribution function of the sequence \((f(n))\) modulo 1 is proved. The proof is based on Fourier analysis arguments and on an application of a result of \textit{R. J. Kooman} [Indag. Math., New Ser. 5, 61-79 (1994; Zbl 0814.11009)] concerning convergence properties of linear recurring sequences. Continuity properties are discussed and important special cases are investigated in detail. In a final section discrepancy bounds are established for Van der Corput type sequences (with respect to linear numeration systems). The paper also contains an interesting application to the study of the \(G\)-adic adding machine as considered in the second author, \textit{P. Liardet} and the reviewer [Acta Arith. 70, 103-123 (1995; Zbl 0822.11008)].
