On the tensor square of a prime power group (Q1924932)

We give a direct proof of bounds, due to N. R. Rocco, for the order of the tensor square of a finite group of prime power order. Our method of proof also yields a new upper bound for the exponent of such a tensor square. Additionally, we show that the exponent of the tensor square of an arbitrary finite group \(G\) divides \(\exp (G') \times |G|\).
