Let \(\Omega\) a bounded domain of \(\mathbb R^n\), \(n\geq 1\), containing the origin. The main result of this paper establishes an improved Hardy-Sobolev type inequality with sharp remainders, involving singular weight, both in the subcritical case, when \(\alpha> 1 - \frac{n}{p}\),\(1<p<+\infty\), and in the supercritical case, when \(\alpha> 1 -\frac{n}{p}\),\(1<p<+\infty\), and in the critical case, when \(\alpha= 1 - \frac{n}{p}\),\(1<p<+\infty\). In particular, in the critical case, the authors show the following inequality: \[ \begin{aligned} \int_{\Omega} |\nabla u|^p |x|^{\alpha p} dx \geq \Lambda_{n, p, \alpha} \int_{\Omega} \frac{|u(x) |^p}{|x|^n} \, A_1(|x|)^{-p} dx \\ \displaystyle + C \int_{\Omega} \frac{|u(x) |^p}{|x|^n} \, A_1(|x|)^{-p} A_2(|x|)^{-2} dx \end{aligned}\tag{0.1} \] for any \(u\in W ^{1,p}_{\alpha,0}(\Omega)\). In this case the sharp remainder involves a singular weight \(A_{1}(\left|x\right|)^{- p} \cdot A_{2}(\left|x\right|)^{- 2}\), where \(A_{1}(\left|x\right|)=\log\frac{R}{\left|x\right|}\) and \(A_{2}(\left|x\right|)=\log A_{1}(\left|x\right|)\) and the costant \(\Lambda_{n, p, \alpha}\) is the best possible constant independent of \(u\). Moreover, the authors show two applications. The second is concerned with a nonlinear eigenvalue problem. The authors, both in the subcritical case and in the critical case, determine exactly when the first eigenvalue of the weighted eigenvalue problems for the operator that, in the critical case, is of the type \(-\mathrm{div}\left( \left| x \right|^{\alpha p }\cdot \left| \nabla u\right|^{p - 2}\cdot\nabla u\right) - \frac{\mu}{\left|x\right|^{n}} A_{1}(\left|x\right|)^{- p}\cdot \left|u\right|^{p- 2} \cdot u \) will tend to zero as \(\mu\) increases to \(\Lambda_{n, p, \alpha}\).
