Denote by \(\mathcal E\) the locally convex space of entire functions in one complex variable, endowed with the compact open topology, and by \(L(\mathcal E)\) the algebra of all continuous linear maps from \(\mathcal E\) into itself. Given \(s\geq 0\), let \(T_{(s)}\) be the translation operator on \(\mathcal E\) defined by \((T_{(s)}x)(\zeta) = x(\zeta+s)\) for \(x\in \mathcal E\) and \(\zeta\in \mathbb C\). Also, let \(T_z\) be the operator of multiplication by \(z\), i.e. the identity function on \(\mathbb C\). The main result of this paper states that the algebra generated by \(\{T_{(s)}\}_{s\geq 0}\) and \(T_z\) is strongly dense in \(L(\mathcal E)\). Motivated by such a result, the author is led to the following open question: Is \(L(\mathcal E)\) strongly generated by two operators?
