The author considers a family of eigenvalue problems for the Schrödinger equation \[ -{y}''+P(z)y=\lambda y, \] where \(P(z)\in \mathbb C[z]\), \(\deg P(z)=2p\) \((p\in \mathbb N)\) and \(k\) is the number of boundary conditions for the equation. He shows that, if \(k\leq p\), then the spectral determinant consists of two components, containing even and odd eigenvalues, respectively. In the case \(k=p+1\), the corresponding parameter space consists of infinitely many connected components.
