The authors study the motion of spirals by mean curvature type motion in the 2-dimensional plane. The motivation comes from dislocation dynamics. They prove a comparison principle for the corresponding parabolic quasilinear equation. Singularity generated by the attached end point of spirals is studied for the first time in this paper. Well-posedness of the corresponding Cauchy problem in the class of sub-linear weak (viscosity) solutions is obtained. When the initial data satisfies an additional compatibility condition, an expanation on how to get the existence of smooth solutions is also given.
