The authors investigate the dynamic von Kármán system with a localized interior damping of the form \[ \begin{aligned} &u_{tt}+\Delta^2u+d(\mathbf{x})g(u_t)=f_V(u)+p\;\text{in}\;\varOmega\times (0,\infty),\\ &u|_{t=0}=u_0,\;u_t|_{t=0}=u_1,\\ &f_V(u)=[v(u)+F_0,u],\;[u,w]=u_{xx}w_{yy}+u_{yy}w_{xx}-2u_{xy}w_{xy},\\ &\Delta^2v(u)=-[u,u]\;\in \varOmega,\;\partial_\nu v(u)=v(u)=0\;\text{on}\;\varGamma \end{aligned} \] with the damping term \(d(\mathbf{x})g(u_t)\) acting upon a part \(\omega\subset \varOmega,\;d(\mathbf{x})\geq c_0>0,\;\mathbf{x}\in \omega.\) The function \(g\) is assumed to be a monotone increasing, \(g(0)=0.\) The boundary conditions considered are for the clamped, the hinged (simply-supported) or the plate free on the boundary with a nonlinear damping term. The existence of a compact global smooth and finite dimensional attractor is proved.
