The author uses \textit{S. Nahmias}' definition of possibilistic fuzzy variables [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 1, 97--110 (1978; Zbl 0383.03038)] and investigates the membership function of a finite sum of \(n\) such unrelated fuzzy variables, where the membership function of the first summand is different from the membership functions of the following \(n-1\) summands. He proves three theorems and generalizes results by \textit{D. H. Hong} and \textit{H. Kim} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 93, No. 1, 121--124 (1998; Zbl 0919.04007)]. The results are of interest in the context of renewal theory.
