This is a well-written elementary introduction into the basic mathematical topics for fuzzy sets and fuzzy numbers, accessible for undergraduate mathematics and also for engineering students. The topics discussed here start from the basic notions on fuzzy sets and fuzzy relations, cover fuzzy rule-based systems for fuzzy control, continue with fuzzy numbers and fuzzy arithmetic, touch upon fuzzy analysis which reaches up to suitable notions of differentiability and fuzzy differential equations, mention some extensions like \(L\)-fuzzy sets and type-2 fuzzy sets, cover some possibility theory and some fuzzy clustering, and finally deal with fuzzy transforms and neuro-fuzzy systems.
